FP2000: Prompts Incorrectly Indicate That Office Server Extensions Are Installed (264751)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft FrontPage 2000

This article was previously published under Q264751

SYMPTOMS

When you try to install the Microsoft FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions from the Microsoft Management Console (MMC), you may receive prompts indicating that the Microsoft Office Server Extensions are installed -- when, in fact, only the FrontPage Server Extensions are installed.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the Office Server Extensions were installed on the computer at one point in time. This leaves a globally unique identifier (GUID) in the registry that must be removed.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, find and remove the GUID described in the "Cause" section. To do so, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Run, in the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
  2. In the Registry Editor, click the Edit menu, click Find, and then in the Find what box, type the following:

    BDEADE6D-C265-11D0-BCED-00A0C90AB50F

    NOTE: The path should be as follows:

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{BDEADE6D-C265-11D0-BCED-00A0C90AB50F}

  3. On the Registry menu, click Export Registry File, and then give the file a name with a .reg extension.

    You may restore the original registry settings by importing this file later.
  4. On the Edit menu, click Delete to remove the following key:

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{BDEADE6D-C265-11D0-BCED-00A0C90AB50F}

You are now able to run the Configuration Wizard and receive the standard FrontPage prompts.
