SYMPTOMS

When you save a Microsoft Visio 2000 drawing to Visio 5.0 file format, you may receive the following error message:
Visio internal error: #2159

Action 1005: Save As.

First try closing an reopening the file. Next try restarting Visio.

CAUSE

The Microsoft Visio 2000 drawing has too many shapes and it is too complex to be saved to the Visio 5.0 file format.

RESOLUTION

To work around this behavior, try reducing the number of shapes in the drawing. To do so:
  1. Delete shapes that are not vital to the drawing.
  2. Ungroup any grouped shapes.
  3. If the drawing contains multiple pages, put the pages in separate drawings.
NOTE: If this does do not work, the Microsoft Visio 2000 drawing is too complex to be converted to Visio 5.0 file format.

STATUS

This is a limitation of the Visio 5.0 file format.

MORE INFORMATION

There is no specific limit to the number of shapes in Visio 5.0. The limit may be encountered with as few as 2000 shapes. It depends on the complexity of the shapes in the drawing.
