Some Bitmap Formats Are Not Supported in Movie Maker (264599)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to import a bitmap (.bmp) file into into Movie Maker, you may receive the following error message:
This file can not be imported. Make sure that it is a valid file type and that its contents have not been corrupted.

CAUSE

This issue can occur if you try to import a .bmp file that uses less than 256 Color (8-bit).

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, convert the image to a supported format.
