SUMMARY

This article describes Exchange 2000 Conferencing Server resources that generate free-and-busy information based on the cost of the resource invited, not the number of users invited.

MORE INFORMATION

The cost of a resource is set by the administrator throughout Exchange 2000 Conferencing Server Setup, and is specific to a given resource. A resource can use one or more Conferencing Technology Providers, each with it's own maximum number of connections. The cost of the resource is deducted from the Conferencing Technology Providers maximum number of connections for a specified time when the appointment is booked. If the required number of connections are unavailable at the specified time, the resource indicates that it is busy.

For example, consider the following scenario:

Requirements for Scenario

  • Exchange 2000 Conferencing Server is installed by using both the Video Conferencing Provider and the Data Conferencing Provider.
  • The maximum number of connections for both Conferencing Technology Providers is 50.
  • The Exchange 2000 Conferencing Server is set up by using four resources that use both Conferencing Technology Providers using equal costs (costs are indicated in parenthesis) - VirtualRoom1 (5), VirtualRoom2 (10), VirtualRoom3 (15), VirtualRoom4 (30).

Scenario

  1. User1 invites User2 and User3 to a 60 minute video conference using VirtualRoom2 (10) at 10:00 A.M.
  2. The Exchange 2000 Conferencing Server deducts the cost, 10, from both of the Conferencing Technology Providers maximum connections for this specified time. In this case, both Conferencing Technology Providers maximum connections are reduced to 40 even though only three users are attending the video conference.
  3. User4 invites User5 to a 60 minute video conference using VirtualRoom3 (15) at 10:00 A.M. on the same day.
  4. The Exchange 2000 Conferencing Server again deducts the cost, 15, from both of the Conferencing Technology Providers maximum connections for this appointed time. In this scenario, both Conferencing Technology Providers maximum connections are reduced to 25, even though only two users are attending the video conference.
  5. At this point, VirtualRoom4 indicates that it is busy for the 10:00 A.M. appointment because the required cost, 30, is not available at this specified time. VirtualRoom1, VirtualRoom2, and VirtualRoom3 indicates that it is free, because the cost of each of these rooms is still below the maximum available connections.
