Disk Manager Does Not Display Graphical View in Bottom Pane at High Resolution (264402)

SYMPTOMS

When you open the Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in, no graphical view of the computer drive partitions is displayed.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if a very high resolution is used. Computers that exhibited this behavior are usually running a resolution of 2560 x 1024 at 85 Hertz (Hz), and using 32-bit color.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, reduce the resolution until the graphical view is displayed.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

You can also work around this behavior by changing views in Disk Management to display the graphical representation in the top pane and the volume list in the bottom pane:
  1. Click Start, select Settings, and then select Control Panel. Choose Administrative Tools, and then choose Computer Management.
  2. Click the Tree tab, select Disk Management. In the View menu, select Top, and then Graphical View. Select Bottom, and then select Volume List.
