SYMPTOMS

The BackOffice Small Business Server (SBS) Add User Wizard may not set access to shared folders and may generate the following error messages:
The wizard was unable to give the username permission to access the shared folder foldername.

The wizard was unable to read the permission information on the shared folder username. As a result, the shared folder list may be incomplete.
In addition, the following event ID may be logged in System log in Event Viewer:
Event ID 2511
The server service was unable to recreate the share share name because the directory directory path no longer exists.

CAUSE

Event ID 2511 is caused by removing a shared folder without first removing the share name. Removing a shared folder without first removing the share name prevents the share's reference from being removed from the registry. If any of the deleted shares still exist in the registry, and those shares are used when you run the Add User Wizard, the wizard may not set access to shared folders and may generate the error messages.

RESOLUTION

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

Compare the existing folders and shares with the shares still listed in the registry. If you have deleted any shares and folders, remove any references that still exist for the deleted shares from the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Shares
