PRB: Windows Installer Fails with MindSpring Software Installed (264231)

When you are trying to install a program that uses the Windows Installer, you may receive the following error message:

An error occurred while configuring the MindSpring Internet Software
CAUSE
This is caused by the MindSpring Internet Software
and the Windows Installer using the same Microsoft Installer (MSI) extension. If the MindSpring software is installed last, then it will own the association for the .msi files and the error will result.
RESOLUTION
You can follow these steps to resolve this problem:
- Double-click My Computer. From the File menu, click Options or Folder Options.
- Click the File Types tab.
- Scroll through the list and find MindSpring Legacy Info File. Select this file, and then click Remove to remove the association.
- Run the Instmsi.exe file on the program's installation media to get the association set to the Windows Installer.
To get the MindSpring Legacy Info working properly again, reinstall the software.
