The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Works 2000
- Microsoft Works 6
- Microsoft Works 7.0
This article was previously published under Q264213 SYMPTOMS
When you create an envelope in Microsoft Works 2000 and save the envelope as a Works 4.x envelope document, and you then try to open the envelope in Works 2000 or Works 4.x, the envelope does not open and any address data that was on the envelopes is missing.
CAUSE
This problem may occur because the Works 2000 envelope template is different from the Works 4.x envelope template, and the address data is not saved.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, save all addresses in the Works Address Book, and then save a copy of the Works Address Book to a floppy disk or other transportable media to transfer addresses between a Works 2000 computer and a Works 4.x computer.
You can create similar envelopes in both Works versions.
To create an envelope in Works 2000, follow these steps:
- Start the Works 2000 Word Processor.
- On the Tools menu, click Envelopes.
- In the Envelopes dialog box, do one of the following:
- If you want to create envelopes with addresses that are not in your Works Address Book, or other data sources, click Single envelope.
-or-
- If you want to create envelopes with addresses that are in your Works Address Book, or other data sources, click Mail merge envelopes.
- Click OK.
- On the Envelopes Setting dialog box, select the envelope size, and then click New Document.
TIP: If you frequently use the same size envelope and return address, you can save the envelope as a template. You can also place the Works Address Book Address Block field in the envelope template.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Works 2000.
