SUMMARY

This article discusses how to set up and configure the Microsoft Exchange 2000 Connector for Novell GroupWise using Gateway Services for NetWare (GSNW). Novell NetWare servers use Novell Directory Services (NDS) to authenticate users. NDS authentication is needed to make the GroupWise Connector work properly. Microsoft Windows 2000 uses GSNW to access the Novell volumes. However, you need to activate the Gateway option of GSNW to successfully authenticate using NDS.

To configure the GroupWise Connector on Exchange 2000 using GSNW, you must perform the following procedures, each of which is explained in detail later in this section.

NOTE: Before you begin, ensure that GroupWise 4.11, 5.2, or 5.5 with the GroupWise API Gateway is installed.
  • Install the GroupWise Connector on Exchange 2000.
  • Create and activate the NTGATEWAY group.
  • Activate the GWISE address generator in Exchange 2000.
  • Configure the GroupWise Connector on Exchange 2000.
  • Start the GroupWise Connector.

Install the GroupWise Connector on Exchange 2000

The connector is installed during the initial setup of Exchange 2000. If you do not see this connector in Exchange System Manager, you must re-run Setup by using the Add/Remove Programs tool in Control Panel. Choose to install the GroupWise Connector.

If GSNW is not installed on the Exchange 2000 server:
  1. Right-click My Network Places, and then click Properties.
  2. Right-click Local Area Connection, and then click Properties.
  3. Click Install, and then choose to install a new client.
  4. Add the Gateway (and Client) Services for NetWare.
To configure GSNW to access the Novell server:
  1. In Control Panel, double-click the GSNW icon, and type your Novell NDS tree and context in the Tree and Context fields, respectively.
  2. Click OK. You are prompted to log off the system to active changes.

Create and Activate the NTGATEWAY Group

The NTGATEWAY group is required to allow the GroupWise Connector to be authenticated against NDS.
  1. Open the Novell Administrator (NWADMIN) to administer the Novell server where GroupWise is installed.
  2. Create a group in Novell called NTGATEWAY. Give this group full rights to the API Gateway path and all subfolders.
  3. Add the Novell account that is being used by the GroupWise connector to the NTGATEWAY group. Make sure that the user on Novell has full access to the API Gateway path and all of its subfolders.
  4. Double-click the GSNW icon in Control Panel, click the Gateway button, and then click to select the Enable Gateway check box.
  5. Type the Novell account that is being used to access the API Gateway in the Gateway Account box. Then type the password in the Password and Confirm Password boxes.
  6. Click Add to create a gateway share. Type a share name for the gateway share in the Share Name box (for example, Apigateway).
  7. Type the network path for the API Gateway in the Network Path box (for example, \\nwserver\sys\gwdomain\wpgate\api).
  8. Select a drive letter for the gateway share.
  9. Click OK to save your changes. At this point, you must log off of Windows to activate your changes.

Activate the GWISE Address Generator in Exchange 2000

  1. Start Exchange System Manager.
  2. Expand the Recipients container.
  3. Click Recipients Policies.
  4. Open the properties of the default policy.
  5. Click the E-Mail Addresses tab.
  6. Click to select the GWISE check box, and then click OK to activate the GWISE proxy addresses for your Exchange 2000 users.

Configure the GroupWise Connector on Exchange 2000

  1. Start Exchange System Manager.
  2. Open the properties of your Exchange 2000 organization.
  3. Click Display routing groups and Display Administrative Groups.
  4. Use the following path to locate the Connector for Novell GroupWise, and then open its properties:

    Administrative Groups\First Administrative Group\Routing Groups\First Routing Group\Connectors

  5. On the General tab, type the path for the API Gateway in the API Gateway Path box. For example:

    \\nwserver\sys\gwdomain\wpgate\api

  6. Click Modify. Type the NetWare account and password used in GSNW in the NetWare Account and Password fields.
  7. Click the Address Space tab. Add a GWISE address type in the Address field, and then click OK.

    NOTE: You can use an asterisk (*) in the Address field as the address. This allows all mail addressed to GroupWise users to be sent through this connector.
  8. Click the Import Container tab, and then click Modify. Choose a container to import the GroupWise directory entries into. These containers exist in Active Directory as organizational units (OUs). You can create a specific OU for this within the Active Directory Users and Computers MMC snap-in.
  9. Click the Export Container tab, and then click Modify. Select the Users container as the export container. Click Export Contacts and Export Groups if you want to export these items to GroupWise.
  10. Click the Dirsync Schedule tab. Configure the connector to run at a specified time.
  11. Click OK to close the connector properties.

Start the GroupWise Connector

You must start the following services to activate the connector.
  • Microsoft Exchange Connectivity Controller.
  • Microsoft Exchange Router for Novell GroupWise.
  • Microsoft Exchange Connector for Novell GroupWise.
