This article was previously published under Q264042 SYMPTOMS
When you open a Web page in Word 2000, graphics and background images may be missing under the following conditions:
- The Web page was originally created in Microsoft Word 97, and the graphics or background images, or both, were added in Word 97.
-and- - The Web page was opened and saved in Word 2000.
-and- - You no longer have access to the location from which the Word 97 version of the Web page was opened. For example, the Word 97 Web page is located on a network share or floppy disk that you no longer have access to, or the original Web page and its associated files were deleted or moved.
CAUSE
The paths to the graphics and background images are written in the HTML source code as absolute paths instead of relative paths.
Word 2000 uses relative paths for most of its Web features. For example, the relative path to an image on your C: drive is written in the HTML source code as:
The absolute path to the same image is the following:
If you no longer have access to the background images or graphics, they are not displayed when you reopen the Web page in Word 2000, or when you view the Web page in the browser. For example, if you originally opened the Word 97 Web page from a floppy disk, and the disk is not in the disk drive, the images do not appear.
