SYMPTOMS

When you are using a version of Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 for Macintosh that was supplied by your Internet service provider (ISP) on a computer with an Apple internal modem, you may receive an "Internet Connection Wizard could not connect" error message when you attempt to use the dial-up connection that was created by Internet Explorer Administration Kit (IEAK) version 5.

RESOLUTION

To work around this behavior:
  1. Run the Internet Connection Wizard.
  2. After you click Next on the Sign Up page, you immediately receive the Could Not Connect dialog box.
  3. With the Could Not Connect dialog box still open, start the Modem control panel.
  4. Click OK. When you receive a "Previous selection for port could not be found" message, click OK.
  5. Quit the Modem control panel, and save the new settings.
  6. Click Redial to connect.

STATUS
