Works 4.5 Error Message: This Program Does Not Run Correctly on This Version of Windows (263969)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to install Microsoft Works 4.5 or Microsoft Works 4.5a, you may receive the following error message:
This program does not run correctly on this version of Windows. To continue, click Run Program. To exit, click Cancel. For more information, click Details.
If you click Details, a Help window opens on the screen. If you click the Microsoft Web site link in the Help window, you are redirected to the following Microsoft Web site:

http://Windows.microsoft.com/windows2000/en/professional/appshelp/idh_w2_msworks45.asp

CAUSE

This problem may occur if both of the following conditions are true:
  • You try to install Works 4.5 or Works 4.5a on a Microsoft Windows 2000-based computer.
  • More than 2 gigabytes (GB) of space is available on your hard disk.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, follow these steps:
  1. Install Works on a Windows 2000 partition with less then 2 GB of free disk space
  2. Install on a computer that is running Microsoft Windows 98, Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me) or Microsoft Windows XP.
  3. Temporarily reduce the amount of available space on your hard disk to less than 2 GB.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Works, versions 4.5 and 4.5a.
