Two Drivers Acquire Resources for the Same PCI Device Using HalAssignSlotResources() (263943)

SYMPTOMS

Two separate drivers that are loaded one after another that attempt to acquire resources for the same PCI device by using the HalAssignSlotResources function succeed. This leaves the first driver in a non-functional state.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the PCI driver does not handle the function request correctly.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 2.
