HTML TITLE Lookup Fails for URIs That Contain a Space (263899)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Site Server 3.0

This article was previously published under Q263899

SYMPTOMS

The Site Server Usage Import HTML TITLE Lookup feature may fail for URIs that contain a space in the requested file name.

CAUSE

HTML Title Lookup fails when W3c Extended Log File Format files are used to import requests. The problem is unique to the W3c Extended Log File Format because it uses a plus sign (+) to denote a space.

For example, a request for microsoft%20corporation.htm is logged and imported as microsoft+corporation.htm. The Usage Import Title Lookup code does not confirm the proper URL encoding before it tries to read the URI, which results in a 404 error message, because microsoft+corporation.htm does not exist.
