How to Reset Proxy Access Controls in Small Business Server 4.5 (263744)

This article explains how to reset Access Control for Web Proxy and Winsock Proxy in Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server (SBS) 4.5 using the SBS Console. It may be necessary to reset Access Control if the list of users granted access to the Internet in the SBS Console does not agree with the list displayed in the Microsoft Management Console.

To reset Access Control for the Web Proxy and the Winsock Proxy in Small Business Server, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Programs, click Microsoft Proxy Server, and then click the Microsoft Management Console icon.
  2. Click the plus (+) sign beside Internet Information Server, and then click the computer name to expand the list view.
  3. Right-click Web Proxy and select Properties.
  4. Click the Permissions tab.

    Be sure that the Enable Access Control check box is selected.
  5. Select all users listed, and then click the Remove from button.
  6. Select All Protocols, and then click OK.
  7. Click OK again to close Web Proxy Properties.
  8. Right-click the Winsock Proxy and select Properties.
  9. Click the Permissions tab.
  10. Select all users listed, and then click the Remove from button.
  11. Select Unlimited Access, and then click OK.
  12. Click OK again to close Winsock Properties.
  13. Click Start, and then select Small Business Server Console.
  14. Click the More Tasks link, and then click Manage Internet Access.
  15. Click the Control Access to the Internet link.
  16. Complete the wizard, adding each person that you want to have access to the Internet to the Users Who Can Access The Internet list. Access Control for the Web Proxy and Winsock Proxy should now agree with the list selected from the Small Business Server Console.
NOTE: This method can be used to reset Access Control for the Web Proxy and/or the Winsock Proxy.
