SYMPTOMS

When you run Netdiag.exe, you may receive the following error message:
Access Exception Occurred
Application: Netdiag.exe
Exception Number (C0000005)

CAUSE

This error message is caused by stack corruption; it may occur in a domain with several authoritative DNS servers.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 2.

Netdiag is included with the Support Tools that are included on the Windows 2000 CD-ROM (in the Support\Tools folder).
