SYMPTOMS

If a computer that is running Windows NT 4.0 receives multiple HostAnnouncement browser frames that contain excessively long computer names from a domain's master browser, the replication traffic may cause the computer to stop responding (hang).

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that this article describes. Apply it only to systems that you determine are at risk of attack.
