  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 for Windows NT 4.0

SYMPTOMS

When you use Internet Explorer 5 to send a page by an e-mail message, an .htm file extension is added to the e-mail attachment. However, if the file you are sending is not an .htm file, the recipient of the e-mail message may be unable to open the file, or the file may appear to be damaged after the recipient opens it.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, use either of the following methods:

Method 1

If the program that created the original file can save the file as an .htm file, this issue does not occur, and the file is usable with the .htm file extension.

Method 2

On the Web server, use a link that is a Universal Naming Convention (UNC) path to the file instead of an HTTP path. When you do so, the file can be opened in the originating program instead of Internet Explorer.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
