Intermittent IIS Access Violations Occur with the DBCS Trail Byte Truncated URL (262606)

SYMPTOMS

Internet Information Server (IIS) may generate an Access Violation error message in the Inetinfo.exe process when you request a URL with a DBCS trail byte that is truncated.

CAUSE

The URL with a DBCS trail byte that is truncated can cause heap corruption and eventually cause intermittent IIS Access Violation error messages to occur.

RESOLUTION

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Windows NT service pack that contains this hotfix.
