PPT2000: Text Frame Defaults to Using Arial Unicode MS Font (262593)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft PowerPoint 2000
This article was previously published under Q262593 SYMPTOMS
When you add a new line of text to a text frame that at one time had been formatted with the Arial Unicode MS font, the font appearing in the Font list on the Formatting toolbar will be Arial Unicode MS. When you start typing the font reverts back to the font applied to the last line of the frame. Selecting the text frame or selecting all of the text and changing the font does not change this behavior.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs if the Korean editing controls in the Microsoft Office Language Settings program are enabled. This enables dual font support in Office programs.
When Asian editing controls are being used, the Font list on the Formatting toolbar defaults to the Asian font of the Asian/Latin font pairs. Therefore, when you press the ENTER key to advance to the next line, the font displayed in the Font list will continue to bias toward the Asian font (Arial Unicode MS is such a font).
You can select a different Latin font and PowerPoint will use this font as soon as you start typing.
WORKAROUND
To work around this behavior, remove the formatting codes from the text stream. To do this, follow these steps: - Select the text frame that displays this behavior.
- On the Edit menu, click Select All.
- On the Edit menu, click Copy.
- On the Edit menu, click Paste Special.
- In the Paste Special dialog box click Unformatted Text.
- Click OK.
After the unformatted text is pasted into the original text frame, the Arial Unicode MS font should no longer be displayed when adding any new lines of text to the text frame.
