PI2000: Setup and Startup Error Messages in Picture It! 2000 (262544)

SYMPTOMS

When you install Microsoft Picture It! 2000 on a Microsoft Windows 2000-based computer, you may receive the following error message:
Setup has encountered an error in the Registration Database.
When you click OK, you may receive an error message similar to the following error message:
Setup could not write to line x in the INI file
File: 'WIN.INI'
Section: 'fonts'
Key: 'Aldine 721 Bold BT (True Type)'
NOTE: If you click Abort, Setup quits. If you click Retry, you receive the same error message. If you click Ignore, you may receive another similar error message for a different line number in the Win.ini file.

When you log on to a Windows 2000-based computer as a PowerUser and attempt to install Picture It! 2000, you may receive the following error message:
Installation of this product on Windows NT requires you to be logged in with Administrator privileges.
When you click OK, Setup quits unexpectedly.

When you attempt to start Picture It! 2000, you may receive the following series of error messages:
Access Denied!
When you click OK, you receive the following error message:
Picture It! Cannot Start
Picture It! needs 30 megabytes of space available on your disk drive. Please close other programs, delete files and/or empty the Recycle Bin.
How do I free disk space?
When you click OK, Picture It! 2000 quits unexpectedly.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you do not log on to the Windows 2000-based computer with Administrator or Power User rights.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, log on to the Windows 2000-based computer as an Administrator, and then install Picture It! 2000.

To start Picture It! 2000, log on to the Windows 2000-based computer as an Administrator or Power User.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
