Find.exe Returns Extra Lines When Piped (262463)

SYMPTOMS

When you pipe Find.exe from the console, Find.exe returns an extra line feed that can result in returning a line where the /V option is looking for lines that do not match the search criteria.

CAUSE

This behavior is caused by a problem in Ulib.dll (a common tools library). When Find.exe is reading the file, the end of the file is encountered in the middle of the read. In this case, a utility function returns an error with 0 bytes read when there is still data to be read from the file.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
