Policy to Deploy Connection Settings Incorrectly Selects LPT1 as the Default Connection Port (262365)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01 for Windows 2000 SP 1
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01 for Windows NT 4.0 SP 1

This article was previously published under Q262365

SYMPTOMS

When you add Dial-Up Networking definitions, the policy does not select the default modem on the target workstation, and the definition on the target workstation does not contain all of the settings in the policy. When you apply this policy, the modem is set to LPT1 (not COM1) although there is a modem on COM1 (and there is no modem on LPT1).

In addition, when you set the dial options by using a policy, not all of the options are applied. The dial-up number is applied, but settings such as Remove prompt for name and password or Show terminal window are not applied even though the settings are contained in the policy.
