PPT97: Adobe Acrobat 4 Causes Save As HTML to Be Unavailable (262321)

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft PowerPoint 97, the Save as HTML command on the File menu may be unavailable (appear dimmed).

CAUSE

The problem occurs if the following conditions are true:
  • You are using Microsoft Windows NT 4.0.
  • You installed Adobe Acrobat 4.0.5 by using the Typical or Minimal install.

    -or-
  • You installed Adobe Acrobat 4.0.5 by using the Custom install, and you kept the default settings.
The above installation options install Acrobat PDFMaker, which turns off the Save as HTML command in PowerPoint 97.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, uninstall Adobe Acrobat 4.0.5, and then reinstall it by following these steps:
  1. Start the Adobe Acrobat Setup program.
  2. When you are prompted to choose the type of setup, click Custom and then click Next.
  3. In the Components list, click Accessories, and then click Change.
  4. Click to clear (uncheck) Acrobat PDFMaker, and then click Continue.
  5. Complete the rest of the installation normally.
