Graphics Print Poorly with Panasonic KX-P4420 Printer Driver Included with Windows 2000 (262306)

SYMPTOMS

When you print to a Panasonic KX-P4420 printer using the driver that is included with Windows 2000, the graphics quality is poor. For example, if you print a test page the Windows logo is unreadable.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because there is a problem with the Panasonic KX-4420 print driver included with Windows 2000. Text is printed properly, but graphics are not printed properly.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use the Hewlett-Packard (HP) LaserJet Series II printer driver included with Windows 2000. To install the new print driver locally (LPT1), use the following steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Printers.
  2. Right-click the Panasonic printer, click Delete, and then click Yes to delete the printer.
  3. Double-click Add Printer, and then click Next.
  4. Click Local, and then click Next.
  5. Click LPT1: Printer Port, and then click Next.
  6. In the left window pane in the Manufacturers area, click HP.
  7. In the right window pane in the Printers area, click HP LaserJet Series II.
  8. In the next window, click Keep existing driver, and then click Next.
  9. Keep the existing printer name or give it an appropriate name.
  10. Choose whether or not you want this to be your default printer, and then click Next.
  11. Choose whether or not you want to share this printer, and then click Next.
  12. Click Yes to print a test page, and then click Next.
  13. Click Finish.
  14. Check to see if the test page printed properly, and then click OK.
Your printer is now set up.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Windows 2000.
