SYMPTOMS

When attempting to run the Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0 upgrade disk on computer running Small Business Server (SBS) 4.0a, you may receive the following error message:
Microsoft SBS upgrade wizard failed to complete, try running the wizard again.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 4 (SP4) or later is not installed on the computer.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, apply Windows NT 4.0 SP4 before you run the upgrade.
