Error Message: TCP/IP Error 52: A Duplicate Name Exists on the Network (262276)

When you connect to an Internet Service Provider (ISP), or a Remote Access Server (RAS) with a dial-up connection or a dial-on-demand routing connection, you receive the following error message:
TCP/IP CP reported error 52: A duplicate name exists on the network
NOTE: When this error message is displayed, the connection is terminated.
CAUSE
The static IP address assigned to the RAS connection is the same as the IP address assigned to a network interface card (NIC) in the same computer.
RESOLUTION
Do not use the same static IP address for the NIC and RAS connection on the same computer.
