XFOR: Migration Wizard Does Not Always Import with Correct Received Date (262235)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server
  • Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5

This article was previously published under Q262235

SYMPTOMS

When Exchange Server 5.5 and Exchange 2000 Server administrators import foreign mailboxes to Exchange, some imported messages may not retain the same received date that the messages had in the original mailbox.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because the migrated messages came to the original mailbox from the Internet and do not have the Request for Comments (RFC) 822 Received field. Without the Received field, Exchange cannot determine the date that the messages actually arrived. Therefore, Exchange uses the current date and time when Exchange migrates the messages to the Exchange mailbox.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

MORE INFORMATION

In this situation, Exchange maintains the original "Sent" date of the messages that are migrated.
