XCON: Deleting User-Created SMTP Virtual Server Does Not Delete the Exchsrvr\Mailroot\Vsi # Folders (262222)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server
This article was previously published under Q262222 SYMPTOMS
When you remove a user-created SMTP virtual server, the directory subtree is left intact. When you create of a new virtual server, it uses the same directory subtree as the deleted virtual server (in the Program Files\Exchsrvr\Mailroot\Vsinumber folder). This can cause problems if there are leftover messages in the subfolders (Pickup, Queue, BadMail). The new virtual server will retry these messages.
WORKAROUND
Verify that the Vsinumber subfolders are empty when you remove an SMTP virtual server. This ensures that all messages have been acted on, and that a new virtual server will not retry them.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server.
