How to Use FrontPage or Visual InterDev with Site Server Membership (262189)

RESOLUTION

To avoid the problem, create a new Web site on a different port that is not secured with Site Server Membership authentication. To do this, perform the following steps:

1. Open the Internet Services Manager (ISM).
2. Right-click the computer icon, click New, and then click Web Site.
3. Enter a description for the Web site, and then click Next.
4. Select an IP address and port for the Web site. Note that either the port or IP address must be different from the Web site that is secured with Site Server Membership authentication (for example "all unassigned" and port 8080). For further details on these settings, refer to the IIS documentation. Click Next.
5. Enter the same directory that is used by the Web site secured with Site Server Membership authentication (for example c:\Inetpub\Wwwroot). Click Next.
6. Select the appropriate settings for the Web site, and then click Finish.
7. In the properties for this new Web site, click the Home Directory tab, click to select the FrontPage Web check box, and then click OK.
8. Start the Web site by right-clicking the Web site, and then clicking Start.

Now that IIS is configured, you can connect to this new Web site and author the Web pages with Visual InterDev or FrontPage.

NOTE: Because this site is not secured with Site Server Membership authentication, you need to decide how this new site will be secured. To do this, you can use any of the methods outlined in the IIS documentation.
