XADM: Exchange Server 5.5 Users May Receive Duplicate Mail from Exchange 2000 Users Who Send to a Distribution List (262135)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server
- Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5
This article was previously published under Q262135 SYMPTOMS
When an Exchange 2000 user sends mail to a distribution list that contains Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 users and adds one of those users to the Cc field, the Exchange Server 5.5 user receives duplicate copies of the message.
CAUSE
Exchange Server 5.5 uses the Instance-ID attribute to differentiate messages. Exchange 2000 uses the Internet-ID attribute. Therefore, when the messages is sent from Exchange 2000, it is sent with the same Internet-ID, but the Instance-ID is created by Exchange Server 5.5, which assumes that it is a separate message.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server.
