SUMMARY

Windows 2000 Service Pack 1 (SP1) and Windows 2000 Datacenter Server include the ability for the Windows 2000 kernel and the Savedump.exe tool to extract a mini dump from a full kernel dump.

MORE INFORMATION

A single field has been added to the memory dump file header, which points to all the symbols that are used to create a valid mini crash dump file. You can use this information when you are performing kernel-mode debugging of mini dump (64 KB) files. In addition, Savedump.exe has a new block of code that automatically writes a mini dump file concurrently when it writes a full dump. The mini dump file is saved in the %SystemRoot%\Minidump folder, and has the following file name format:

Mini000000-instance_count.dmp
