Zoom Modem Setup Interprets Windows Me as Windows NT4.0 (261923)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to install drivers from the the Zoom Dual mode ISA PNP modem installation CD-ROM, the Zoom installation program may incorrectly interpret that you are running Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 instead of Windows Millennium Edition (Me). When this occurs, you receive the following warning message that Windows NT 4.0 is not fully Plug and Play compatible, and the Zoom installation program then tries to install Windows NT 4.0 drivers:

NT 4.0 is not fully Plug and Play, so you must install your modem hardware before you install the modem drivers.

After you restart your computer, the modem does not work, and Device Manager displays error code 28 for the modem.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, contact the manufacturer of your modem to inquire about the availability of updated drivers for the modem.

To work around this issue:

Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click System.
Click the Device Manager tab, click your Zoom modem, and then click Properties.
Click Reinstall/Update Driver, click Specify the location of the Driver, and then select your CD-ROM drive as the source.
