Setup Skips Startup Disk Creation If Floppy Disk Drive Is Not Present or Is Disabled (261824)

SYMPTOMS

When you install Windows Millennium Edition (Me), Setup may not prompt you to create a Startup disk. When this occurs, there is no Cancel button or progress meter. Setup simply begins copying files.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs if Setup determines that there is no floppy disk drive present. If Setup does not detect a floppy disk drive, it does not prompt you to create a Startup disk. Setup also skips the Startup disk creation of there is a floppy disk drive present but it is not enabled in the computer's BIOS.

RESOLUTION

Connect a floppy disk drive to your computer, and enable it in the BIOS.

After Setup is finished, you can create a Startup disk by clicking Start, pointing to Settings, clicking Control Panel, double-clicking Add/Remove Programs, and then clicking Create Disk on the Startup Disk tab.

STATUS
