Problems After Opening and Modifying Multiple Instances of ICS Properties (261746)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition

This article was previously published under Q261746

SYMPTOMS

If you open multiple instances of Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) properties and change the adapter that is listed in the Connect to my home network using box in each of the open instances, ICS may stop working. Changing the settings back to the original settings does not resolve the issue.

Note that this behavior does not occur if your computer contains a modem and a network adapter. This issue occurs only if the computer contains two network adapters (for example, if you use a DSL or cable modem).

CAUSE

When this issue occurs, ICS is unable to bind protocol information on the host network adapter because there is no value in the following registry key:

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\ICSharing\Settings\General\InternalAdapters\0000\InternalBinding

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, run the Home Network Wizard on the host computer to reset the network adapter information. The Home Network Wizard is available in My Network Places.
