Error Messages When You Set Audio Recording Hardware Acceleration to None in the Sound Hardware Test Wizard (261657)

SYMPTOMS

After you change the hardware acceleration setting of your voice capture device to None and you start the Sound Hardware Test Wizard, you may receive the following error messages:
DirectPlay Voice has encountered an error.
(The error code was 0x8015017c)

-and-

Windows cannot execute DpvSetup.exe, use Add/Remove Programs control panel to install.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, click OK in the two error messages that are mentioned in the "Symptoms" section, and then click Voice Test to restart the Sound Hardware Test Wizard.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

To start the Sound Hardware Test Wizard:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. In Control Panel, double-click Sound and Multimedia.
  3. Click Voice Test on the Voice tab.
When you click Voice Test, the Sound Hardware Test Wizard starts.
