Resuming from Standby by Pressing the SHIFT Key Capitalizes All Text Entered in the "Open:" Box (261651)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition
This article was previously published under Q261651 SYMPTOMS
After you upgrade to Windows Millennium Edition (Me), if you press the SHIFT key to resume from Stand by mode, and then type a command in the Open: box of the Run window, the text you type may appear in all uppercase letters.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs because the status flag of certain keys is not reset when those keys are used to take a computer out of Stand by mode.
RESOLUTIONMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. WORKAROUND
Pressing the SHIFT key you used initially to get out of Stand by mode resets this flag. When you do this, you are able to enter text in uppercase and lowercase. However, pressing the other SHIFT key has no effect, and does not fix the behavior.
