Changes Made in Msconfig.exe to Environment Variables Are Not Immediately Applied (261526)

SYMPTOMS

After you make a change to any variables on the Environment tab in the System Configuration Utility (Msconfig.exe), the modifications are not immediately applied, and the changes are not visible in a MS-DOS virtual machine console session.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because changes to MS-DOS environment variables or any global environment variable, are not applied until you restart your computer.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, restart your computer after you change any variables.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
