When you attempt to test a Hewlett-Packard (HP) scanner on a Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me)-based computer by clicking Test on the Troubleshooting tab, the troubleshooter may not acknowledge that Test has been clicked, in which case you receive an error message stating that the test has failed.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur because a Windows process polls the scanner at the same time that the HP testing process attempts to access it. As a result, the HP process may not be successfully completed.
MORE INFORMATION
Despite the failure message from the HP Troubleshooter, the required program starts, and you are able to continue to test the scanner.
