Links LS 2000: Screen Turns Black or Game Quits While Loading a Course (261450)

SYMPTOMS

When you install the Microsoft Links LS 2000 version 1.20 patch, you may experience one or more of the following symptoms when you attempt to start Links LS 2000:
  • The screen may turn black.
  • The game may unexpectedly quit while loading a course.
  • You may receive a "DirectDraw Init Failed" error message.
  • Graphics in the game may be distorted.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if a video adapter based on one of the following chip sets is installed in your computer:
  • Cirrus Logic 54xx
  • S3 Trio 32/64/64V+
  • S3 Vision 864/964
  • Trident TGUI 9440/9470
  • Trident TVGA 8900/9000

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, revert to the original version of Links LS 2000. To do this, uninstall and then reinstall Links LS 2000:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  3. Click Microsoft Links LS 2000, and then click Add/Remove.
  4. When you are prompted to confirm that you want to remove Links LS 2000, click Yes.
  5. Follow the instructions on the screen to uninstall Links LS 2000.
  6. Restart your computer.
  7. Insert the Links LS 2000 Disc 1 CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive.
  8. Follow the instructions on the screen to reinstall Links LS 2000.
NOTE: When you revert to the original version of Links LS 2000, you can no longer participate in online tournaments and games, such as LS Tour.
