Skipped Frames in AVI Files and Streaming Video Playback (261397)

SYMPTOMS

When you play streaming video content or when you replay a recorded Audio-Video Interleaved (AVI) file in Microsoft Windows Media Player 7 or 7.1, the content skips some frames and appears jittery.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, do one or both of the following:
  • Enable the Ultra Direct Memory Access (UDMA) option for your hard drive(s) if your computer supports this option.
  • Reduce the graphics hardware acceleration.

To Reduce Graphics Hardware Acceleration

  1. Right-click the desktop, and then click Properties.
  2. Click the Settings tab, click Advanced, and then click the Performance tab.
  3. Move the slider one notch to the left to reduce the setting.
  4. Click OK until you exit all open windows.
  5. If the streaming video or AVIs still appear jittery, repeat steps 1 through 3 until the setting is set to None.
