SUMMARY

When you click Open or Save As on the File menu in any of the Office programs listed at the beginning of this article, one or more shortcuts called Old program Documents are listed in the Open or Save As dialog box.

NOTE: program in the shortcut name represents the name of the Microsoft program, such as Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, or Microsoft PowerPoint.

By default, these shortcuts reside in your My Documents folder.

MORE INFORMATION

When you upgrade from an earlier version of Office, the Office 2000 migration process looks at the folder in which the previous Office executables were installed. For example, in Office 97 this folder may have been c:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office. If the migration process detects any files with the following file extensions in this folder:

.xls
.doc
.ppt

the migration process creates the associated shortcut in the My Documents folder. Each shortcut is not a shortcut to any particular file. It is just a shortcut to the folder that contains the files.

These shortcuts are created as a convenience to you. If you saved any Excel, Word, or PowerPoint files into the same folder as the Excel, Word, or PowerPoint executables, the Office 2000 migration process creates these shortcuts to make it easier for you to find your data files.
