FIX: Visual InterDev Returns Generic "Unable to Contact Web Server" Error (261152)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Visual InterDev 6.0

This article was previously published under Q261152

SYMPTOMS

When it creates a new project, Visual InterDev 6.0 uses the Web Project Wizard to gather the necessary information to create the project. If an error is encountered within the Wizard, the following error message may appear after you specify the Web server name and click Next in step 1 of the Wizard:
Unable to contact web server <http://servername>

CAUSE

When the Wizard encounters an error, it does not send the actual error message for the error that occurs. The Wizard's built-in error handling functionality was designed to send the generic error message described in the "Symptoms" section of this article.
