OL98: Outlook Stationery Registry Value Corrupted When Templates Are Stored in Folder That Does Not Contain a Space (261128)

SYMPTOMS

When you use Outlook 98 with the WordMail editor option, the registry value for the default template may become corrupted if the path to the default template does not contain any spaces. By default, this is not a problem because the templates are typically stored in the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office folder. However, if the templates are moved to a different location (for example, C:\Temp), the registry value that stores this location may become corrupted.

The buffer size for this value is only calculated correctly for paths that contain spaces. Therefore, when you switch the template from a longer path that contains spaces to a shorter path that does not contain spaces, the buffer size is too long and extra data is appended to the end of the new path for that registry value. You can use Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe) to find this registry value under the following registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\8.0\Word\Stationery
