SUMMARY

Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.5 is the earliest version of MDAC that can be installed on a Microsoft Windows 2000-based computer.

MDAC 2.5 is included as a core component to the Windows 2000 operating system. The dynamic link libraries included as a part of MDAC are now managed under the Windows File Protection feature. Therefore, an attempt to install an earlier version of MDAC is unsuccessful and the existing components remain on the system. The MDAC 2.5 installer detects Windows 2000 and does not complete the installation. Therefore a re-installation of MDAC 2.5 on a Windows 2000-based computer also fails.

To reinstall MDAC 2.5 on a Windows 2000-based computer, the complete operating system must be reinstalled or repaired.
