Replace the Mapi32.dll File

  1. Quit Outlook.
  2. Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.
  3. In the Named box, type mapi32.dll.
  4. In the Look in box, click My Computer, and then click Find Now.
  5. In the search results list, right-click Mapi32.dll, and then click Rename.
  6. Type mapi32.old, and then press ENTER. If there are multiple copies of the Mapi32.dll file in the list, rename each copy.
  7. Quit Find Files.

Reinstall Outlook

To reinstall Outlook, you must have the Outlook 98 installation CD or a connection to the Outlook 98 installation files on a network share.
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Click the Install/Uninstall tab, and then double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  3. Click Microsoft Outlook 98, and then click Add/Remove.
  4. Click Rerun Outlook 98 Setup.
  5. In the Outlook 98 Active Setup dialog box, click Next.
  6. Click to select your installation option, and then click Next.
  7. Under E-mail Service Options, make sure that the settings are correct, and then click Next.
  8. Make sure that the folder in which you want install Outlook 98 is correct, and then click Next. Setup replaces any missing files with the correct files.
  9. Restart your computer, and then start Outlook 98.
