Counters in System Monitor May Be Displayed Incorrectly If a Secondary Language Is Used (260938)

SYMPTOMS

Some of the counters in System Monitor may be displayed as Win32 class names instead of the correct descriptive counter names if you are using secondary languages in Windows 2000. For example, you may see the following Win32 class name:

Win32_PerfRawData_PerfOS_Processor

The correct format is the processor name only.

CAUSE

This behavior is caused by the utility that initializes the performance classes within Windows Management Instrumentation. The problem lies in the conversion from the basic language into a fully specified language ID. Because the database is identified only by the basic ID, there is not enough information to evaluate the fully specified language ID.

RESOLUTION

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 1.
