XCCC: Exchange Conferencing Service Configuration Not Found in the Active Directory (260751)

SYMPTOMS

When conferencing participants attempt to either join a conference or browse for existing published conferences by going to the List.asp Web page, they may receive the following error message:
ACCESS DENIED
The Conference Management Service denied your request due to a lack of permissions.

Please try the following:

  • Verify that you are using the correct password if the conference requires one
  • Verify that you are not trying to join a private conference that you have not been invited to
  • Contact you system administrator
Microsoft VBScript runtime error / [Session variables] error #46: Permission denied / [Problem initializing or using session variables: (Unable to get the conference locator from the conference management zone, Microsoft VBScript runtime error, 70<70, Permission denied)]

The following Event ID's are also be generated in the Microsoft Windows 2000 Application Log:
Type: Error
Source: MSExchangeCONF
Category: Startup/Shutdown
Event ID: 8203
Description: The Exchange Conferencing Service configuration for this site was not found in the Active Directory. Moving the Conference Management Server from the original installation site invalidates the configuration. Error code: 80070490; Message: Element not found
and
Type: Error
Source: MSExchangeCONF
Category: Startup/Shutdown
Event ID: 8206
Description: There was a failure during shutdown of the Microsoft Exchange Conference Management service. There were problems communicating with the Service Control Manager. Error code: 6; Message: The handle is invalid

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the hostname of the conferencing server has been changed.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, you can change the hostname of the conferencing server back to its original name or change the hostname of a conferencing server within the Active Directory for the Conferencing service.
