This article was previously published under Q260697

SYMPTOMS

After you change the hostname of a conferencing server that functions in a membership role, the Conferencing service may not perform properly.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur when you change the hostname and the Exchange Conferencing Management service is not updated with the new hostname, and therefore still references the old hostname.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, you need to edit several Exchange 2000 Server conferencing settings in Active Directory after you change the hostname of a conferencing server that is functioning in a membership role:
  1. Register and open the Active Directory Service Interface (ADSI) Editor Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in:
    1. Copy the Adsiedit.dll file from the Microsoft Windows 2000 Resource Kit to the Winnt\System32 folder.
    2. Click Start, click Run, and then type Regsvr32 adsiedit.dll.
    3. Click Start, click Run, and then type MMC.
    4. On the Console menu, click Add/Remove Snap-in.
    5. Click Add, and then click ADSI Edit. Click Add again, click Close, and then click OK.
    6. Right-click ADSI Edit, and then click Connect To on the shortcut menu.
    7. In the Naming Context list, click the Configuration container, and then click OK.
    8. Click to expand the Configuration container, click Services, and then click Microsoft Exchange. Click organization_name, click Administrative Groups, click First Administrative Group(default), and then click Exchange Conferencing.
    9. Right-click the globally unique identifier (GUID) container, and then click Properties on the shortcut menu.
    10. In the Select property to view list, click msExchAvailableServers.
    11. In the Values box, click the old hostname, and then click Remove.
    12. Type the new hostname of the computer, and then click Add.
    13. Close the snap-in.
  2. Change the active host server:
    1. Start the Exchange System Manager MMC.
    2. Navigate to the Conferencing object, right-click the Conferencing object, and then click Manage.
    3. In the Select a Conference management site list, click the appropriate site name, and then click OK.
    4. Right-click the conferencing site name, and select Properties .
    5. Click Modify for the active conferencing host server, and then click OK to acknowledge the warning message.
    6. Click the new active conferencing host server for the site.
    7. Click OK to apply the changes.
