This article was previously published under Q260607 SYMPTOMS
Internet Explorer 5.5 includes a feature that automatically corrects common syntax errors in a Web address (also known as a Uniform Resource Locator, or URL). For example, a Web address beginning with "HTTP::/" is changed to "HTTP://". The browser is then directed to the corrected address.
However, the incorrect Web address still appears in the drop-down Address box, and returns a "Page cannot be displayed" message if you click the incorrect address.
CAUSE
The automatic correction feature of the Address box does not recognize static text, such as the data from the drop-down list.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
